Two distinctive features of Sasanian bridges are their designation as weir-bridges and their function in the facilitation of irrigation. This has often been used to emphasise a specific Sasanian administrative centralisation. The author stresses the continuity of investments in infrastructures, from the Arsacids to the Islamic period via the Sasanians.
